Term 3 - How has the internet changed the world?

Term Three: Week One


This week we have been thinking about our new Big Question - 'How has the internet changed the world?'


 We have been learning all about computer science - finding out about where the internet came from, how it was invented and how it has changed the world that we live in.

We have also been using the computers to code programs and solve problems as a class.


We have begun reading 'Holes' by Louis Sachar in our English lessons. We are all pretty hooked already, and Year 5 created some fantastic story boards that we are using to write our own exciting narratives.

Term Three: Week Two


This week in our Big Question learning we have been working in pairs to code digital programs using the laptops. Year 5 were able to work together to solve puzzles, challenged to use as few lines of code as possible. 


For our homework this week, Year 5 have been asked to conduct some research into our Big Question, interviewing members of their family to gather some different perspectives. 

Term Three: Week Three / Four


Aspinall class have been busy preparing for our family worship that we celebrated on Friday 1st February. Aspinall class were very excited to share our Big Question learning so far this term, we hope everybody watching enjoyed it.

Well done to everybody in Aspinall class for all of your hard work! :)


In English we have put our Big Question ideas into practice, writing discussion texts about the positive and negative implications of the internet on the world.


In Maths we have been very busy becoming fraction wizards! We are able to convert fluently between improper and mixed number fractions. Year 5 are now moving to add and subtract different fraction forms within problem solving contexts. 


This week, maths club have been beating their multiplication scores and solving place value riddles! You can see them celebrating with Mr. Aspinall below!

Term Three: Week Five


On Tuesday it was Safer Internet Day. We learned all about our digital footprints and about staying safe online. We had some fantastic discussions and had a great day exploring our Big Question in more detail. 


In Art this week, we thought about what a 'digital' earth might look like, we used watercolour paints to create digital earths which we were very impressed with! 


We have continued to write our discussion texts in English this week, giving alternative points of view about the impact of the internet on human intelligence.


In Maths on Thursday we worked in pairs to complete a problem solving game that required us to subtract mixed number fractions. There was lots of super maths in the classroom that morning, particularly among the competitive members of the class! 




Term Three: Week Six


We have had a super, busy week at school testing some of our maths and English learning. 


We have wrapped up our Big Question and started thinking about all of the learning we would like to do after half term! :) 

Homework for half term:


Revise the spellings we have covered this term. Try to test yourself, or ask a family member to test you on a week where you were not quite so confident.
