Term 2
Week 1
Hope you had a lovely half term and a good rest!
Just a reminder that homework is set on a Thursday and is due in/completed by the following Wednesday please. Homework will consistent of reading (this is ongoing and at least 3 times per week please), spelling (see spelling section for weekly spellings - these are tested on a Wednesday) and MyMaths (definitely one task and sometimes two tasks are set). In addition, there may sometimes be work set which is related to Spag, English or a creative piece linked to our theme/topic for the term. All details for homework can be found in this section of the Class Page.
There was homework set on MyMaths for over half term which linked with our key maths terms from the end of last term: multiple, common multiple, factor, common factor, prime number, lowest common multiple (LCM) and highest common factor (HCF). These terms are important for the children to know what they are as they will be relevant in tests throughout this year and beyond. So if you haven't already managed to complete those MyMaths tasks, please do so when you have time. There is a glossary of terms for both Maths an English within the Planning and Assessment section, which may be helpful to you and your child going through this year and into year 6 also.
This week's homework consists of two MyMaths tasks and a Spag task (see document attached below). Answers to the Spag are within the attachment so that children can mark their own and learn from any mistakes made. You do not need to complete all 3 tasks (just one) and you can select which Spag mat to complete using the number of stars as a guide as to difficulty (1 = easiest; 3 = hardest). Don't forget spellings and reading too please! Any problems with homework, please do come and talk to us.
Week 2
This week we have started our fractions unit and fractions are renowned for being tricky! We will take it step by step in school. On MyMaths there are 2 fraction tasks to complete on areas we have covered this week.
There is also another Spag mat below to complete - remember there are 3 levels like last week and you only need to complete one of these levels. You can also check your answers with the answer sheet.
Don't forget spellings and reading too please
Week 3
Apologies for the homework being a bit late this week!
There is a My Maths task linked to improper and mixed fractions. Sometimes it helps to do the lesson first if your child is a little unsure. The more confidence your child can build now with fractions the more it will help as this area progresses.
There is a Spag sheet below to complete as before. Please mark these with your child (answers are there) and you can let me know if there is anything of concern.
Spellings are on the way!
Week 4
This week there is a My Maths task set - adding and subtracting fractions! We have nailed adding and subtracting with the same denominators and for the most part we are confident adding and subtracting fractions with DIFFERENT denominators, but finding the common denominator can be tricky for some of us. I would suggest looking at the lesson part of the homework first if your child finds it tricky as this should help explain the process.
There is a Spag mat below to have a go at as well - remember you only need to complete 1 of the 3 differentiated sheets (1 star = easier; 2 stars = medium difficulty; and 3 stars = hardest). The answers follow each differentiated sheet so you can mark your own learning.
Christmas is almost here! If you have any old/spare or no longer wanted Christmas decorations at home please could you bring them into school as the class is sadly a little lacking in tree decorations and other larger decorations for the classroom. We will gratefully receive any unwanted decs! If you could bring them in as soon as possible we would be very appreciative
Week 5
On MyMaths there is one task related to comparing fractions - either use the bar models within the task or find a common denominator to help you compare them!
Below is another Spag mat to have a go at too.
Make a Hanging Christmas Decoration Challenge!
Do you think you can make a hanging Christmas decoration for the classroom? We are having an Arctic/David Attenborough theme for our Christmas classroom so perhaps your decoration could link with that! there are some ideas below or have a look online and see if you can find something you would like to make or use your own ideas! Please bring them in as soon as possible
Week 6
There isn't any MyMaths homework this week. There is a Spag mat below if you/your child still has the energy to complete it! Remember, you don't need to hand these in and can mark them using the mark sheet within the attachment. There is one last week of spellings for a test next week - please see spelling section.
There will not be any homework set for over the Christmas holidays.
