Term 2 gallery
Week 1 term 2
This week we have started our fraction topic in Maths, simplifying fractions by finding the highest common factor, as well as ordering fractions by finding the lowest common multiple.
In English, in preparation for our Remembrance Service next week, we have written poems, inspired by poets such as Wilfred Owen, John McCrae and Vera Brittain. The poems that were written were incredibly moving.
In History, we spent time researching soldiers from the Lyminge War Memorial and have written the names of these soldiers onto crosses in preparation for next week.
In Science we experimented with circuits, reminding ourselves of what was learnt in Year 4 and developing this knowledge.
We also took part in a fun orienteering and hockey lesson this week, as well as learning the names of different countries in French.

Week 2 term 2
This week Year 6 have really made us proud. With a big emphasis on Remembrance this week, they have been incredibly thoughtful and respectful. Leading the Remembrance Service, they represented the school in a really positive way. As well as that, many of the class acted as tour guides, showing prospective parents and children around the school. They have also been selling poppy memorabilia to the different classes.
This week we have also covered a wide range of subjects... adding and subtracting fractions in Maths by finding a common denominator; researching and planning Viking non-chronological reports and learning circuit symbols in Science. In P.E we began our gymnastics unit, learning new jumps including stag and cat turns.
We also continued our hockey with Dave this term and learnt different compass directions in French. In Music we listened to our new composer this term, Edvard Grieg and in Computing we began our programming unit, using 'when and do' for Kodu.

Week 3 term 2
This week we have been continuing with our fraction topic, working with mixed fractions and beginning to multiply fractions by integers (whole numbers). In English, we have written up our non-chronological reports and used the editing stations to improve our work. In Science we repaired circuits and in French we looked at Paris as a tourist destination and created leaflets in French. In P.E. we have continued our gymnastics skills, this week focusing on rolls and getting the beam out for rolls too! Fun! We have started our vikings topic in History, debating whether Vikings were raiders or traders, using different sources to form an opinion. We also had a visit from Ian from KIC theatre to develop our Viking knowledge further!
Viking role-play with KIC theatre.. can you spot Mrs Vincer enjoying one of the viking houses?!
Week 4 term 2
This week Year 6 have coped really well with our termly assessments, tackling questions with hard work and maturity! In English, we have been considering gothic novels such as A Christmas Carol and listened to a 'spooky' Victorian story in the outdoor classroom. In Science we have been investigating how wire length affects bulb brightness and in History we continued our Vikings topic, creating a 'live graph' about different invasions. In P.E we continued with our hockey and gymnastics, this week getting out the spring board. In Computing we have been deconstructing code when programming Kodu. This week has also included a musical concert for those children taking part in music lessons - a huge well done to them! Also, not forgetting, the football... Year 6 had the option to watch the football or take part in some Viking art!

Spooky stories in the outdoor area
Week 5 term 2
This week we have been continuing our fraction unit in Maths and moving onto division. We learnt how to KEEP, CHANGE, FLIP to remember along with a rap and actions! In English we have started innovating our own spooky stories and creating twists to our stories! In gymnastics we have started to put everything we have learnt into a sequence in groups.. along with keeping in time to music! In hockey we played a big match and used the whole pitch. In History we continued with our Viking topic, considering different Kings and in French learnt about famous French people and the verb 'est' and 'était.' In Computing we created racing tracks in Kodu and created our own games, programming a kodu to race against the computer! In Science we continued our light investigating, using log-its to measure the light in LUX. (The children are tricky to see as we were in the dark!!) We have been busy practising for the KS2 Service which we are really looking forward to sharing with you next week!

Week 6 term 2
Another busy week, finding fractions of amounts in maths as well as writing stories. We finished our gymastics routines to music in groups and show cased our results! We also had a wonderful D. day, creating controllable Christmas vehicles which we will have a go at racing and evaluating next week! This week Year 6 took part in the KS2 Service and we are incredibly proud of them. The Christingle part of the service was a really special moment....
