Wildcats Class Y5
Term 5
BIG QUESTION: What did the Ancient Greeks believe?
Welcome back to Term 5, the start of the summer terms!
We hope you all had an enjoyable Easter break and are ready for the term ahead.
At the end of last term, we had a fantastic trip to the Greenwich Maritime Museum with a wonderful workshop all about the Polar regions and what it is like to be a polar explorer. The children asked excellent questions and behaved beautifully all day; they really were a credit to us all.
This term we change our focus towards Ancient Greece and centre our learning around the text, 'The Adventures of Odysseus'. The book is an adaptation of Homer's 'The Odyssey'.
In our writing lessons, we will be focusing on a different Greek myth each week to refine our narrative writing skills all before leading up to planning and writing our own Greek myth at the end of the term.
Throughout the term are grammar and punctuation foci are: relative clauses, using parenthesis, identifying determiners and using commas to avoid ambiguity.
Our history learning will focus on life in Ancient Greece, where we will have an Ancient Greek day at the end of the term to bring all of our learning together. Date to follow. In Art and DT this term, the children will be creating a Greek mask, designing and building a labyrinth and designing a Greek vase to depict the myth of Medusa. Our science topic is Forces and continues on from last term, where we study gravity, air resistance, friction, levers and pulleys and gears.
In RE our key question is, 'what does it mean to be a Jewish person in Britain today?' Our theme in PSHE is called Relationships, music will focus around the song 'Dancing in the Street' Computing is based around Creating Media and French is learning about School Life.
Our PE days have changed to a Wednesday morning to go swimming and a Friday afternoon. Our topics this term are Swimming and Cricket.
