Term 1
Week Two

This week in English we have been learning about expanded noun phrases, and using determiners ‘a’ / ‘an’ accurately in our writing. We applied this to our Stone Age boy writing, preparing for our setting descriptions next week. In maths, we have been working with numbers to 1000 - partitioning in varied ways, using different models.

We learned about the three main eras of The Stone Age in history and made some fantastic, creative posters to show our learning. We had our first French lesson with 'Madame. Taylor!' and our first handball lesson in P.E. Mrs. Taylor will continue to cover the class for PPA on a Tuesday afternoon.
In art, we used charcoal to show 'light' and 'dark' in cave drawings, and in R.E we began our 'People of God' unit, looking at the qualities and actions of Noah.
The children worked hard creating squirrel posters with Mrs. Harding, when I was away on a course this Thursday - I loved seeing them when I came back!
We designed our own digital devices in computing which was lots of fun, and in Jigsaw we thought about what makes a great school. We had our first music lesson and braved the recorders! We learned the 'B' note and we haven't even had any complaints from neighbours (yet!)

Week One
We have had a great first week back in Year 3! We spent some time getting to know our classroom, understanding changes, catching up with old friends - and meeting new ones too! :)
In English and VIPERS, we have started reading 'Stone Age Boy'. We have really enjoyed it and had amazing ideas about the text. We have been writing observations and uplevelling our work with varied adjectives.
In maths, we have been revising our understanding of place value and partitioning numbers. We have been working especially hard on our layout and presentation style in KS2!

We are learning all about the Stone Age this term, and had lots of fun in art with gestural drawing - exploring cave art and experimenting with using charcoal in different ways. In science, we introduced our 'rocks' topic, identifying types of rock, and in P.E we worked on our teamworking skills with some exciting games!
We had our first computing lesson - learning about digital devices: input, programming and output (tricky stuff!) We had a circle time for our first Jigsaw lesson, reflecting on our first week back, and finished the day with some well-earned choosing time!
