By the end of year 4 children are expected to be fluent in their times tables up to 12x12. We will spend a lot of this year practicing these and using resources such as Times Tables Rock Stars to master our tables. Towards the end of the year we have to complete a statutory Multiplication Tables Check (MTC), this consists of answering 25 Times Tables questions each in under 6 seconds.

This is not something for you to worry about at the moment – you will be invited to a meeting to discuss the Check around Easter time – but this gives you an idea of what we are aiming for by the end of the year.  

If you do want to get a head start on practicing for the MTC there is a section on Times Table Rock Stars called 'Soundcheck' which is exactly the same as you will see for your check towards the end of the year. There are also some links to free practice sites if you do not have access to TTRS for any reason.
