Welcome to Term 6!

Tuesday 8th June 2021

Dear Badger families

Welcome to Term 6! We hope you enjoyed your half term and the lovely warm weather we had! We can’t believe we have arrived at our final term of Year 2 already! We would like to let you know about some amazing learning that we have planned for this term and to introduce the new Big Question for Term 6.

Term 6’s learning will revolve around our exciting Big Question “Did Anglo-Saxon children go to Lyminge Primary School?” (See our class webpage). This question is inspired by the local Anglo-Saxon festival that is being held during the next few weeks in Lyminge. In English we are going to be writing fictional stories and poems, as well as developing our comprehension skills. Spellings will continue to come home on a Friday and the children will be tested on the following Wednesday. In Maths we will be focusing on measure, data handling as well as revisiting all four operations as we apply our skills to solve problems. In Science we will continue to develop our investigation skills as we focus on living things. During RE, we will learn more about the world religion of Islam and its Muslim practices. In History we be finding out about Anglo Saxons and, as normal, we will be using ICT to facilitate our learning across the curriculum. In PE we will be developing our skills in rounders, cricket and athletics. PE days this term remain Wednesday and Friday.

During the last 2 weeks of Term 6 we will have ‘Nurture Weeks’ and we will be focusing on transition, preparing the children for their new classes in September. As the weather warms up we will definitely need to keep ourselves more hydrated. Please could you ensure your child has their water bottle and hat in school every day and has their sunblock applied.

Please continue to read with your child daily and record this in the yellow reading book. We hope that we will have a happy and exciting term. I look forward to seeing many of you during the parents meetings on 16th and 17th June 2021. If you would like to get in contact at any time please feel to email the office or write a note in your child’s contact book.

Regards

Dear Badger families

We've come to the end of a busy term and I wanted to say how proud I am of all the children in Badgers. They have worked very hard and deserve a well-earned break now. I haven't set any home work over half term, the only thing I would like the children to do is plant out their sunflower into the garden or a larger pot. They also need to look after their bean seed for the week and then bring it back to school on Tuesday 8th June. I wish you all a lovely half term holiday and I hope you have fun visiting friends and family. Let's hope the sun stays out!

Best wishes Mrs Cox, Mrs Shields, Mrs Mumford and Miss Day

Welcome to Term 5!

Wk beg: 19th April 2021

Dear Parents

Welcome to Term 5! We hope you had a lovely Easter holiday and managed to spend time with family and friends.

Term 5’s learning will revolve around our Big Question “Where would a lion really hide?” (See our class webpage). This question is inspired by one of the books that we will be reading in English, ‘How to Hide a Lion’. In English we are going to be writing persuasive texts and fictional stories, as well as exploring animal poems. We will also be investigating spelling patterns. Spellings will come home on a Friday and the children will be tested on the following Wednesday. In Maths we will be focusing on fractions and measurement, as well as continuing to apply our skills to solve problems. In Science we will continue to develop our investigation skills as we focus on animals and habitats. In RE we will be learning about the Islam religion. In History we be finding out about Anglo Saxons and, as normal, we will be using ICT to facilitate our learning across the curriculum.

PE days this term will be still be Wednesday and Friday. Please ensure all kit is marked and that children have the correct footwear, plimsolls or trainers. Homework will continue to be posted on Seesaw on a Friday for completion by the following Thursday. Please continue to read with your child daily and record this in the yellow reading record book. For your information, we are being joined by another student teacher from Canterbury Christchurch University, Miss Day, and she will be with us until mid-June. Mrs Hickman will continue to do PPA cover on a Wednesday afternoon.

We hope that we will have a happy and exciting term. If you would like to have a chat please feel to email the office or write a note in your child’s contact book.

Regards and best wishes

Welcome to Term 4!

Week beginning 8th March

What a fantastic week it has been with all the children back at school! I am so impressed with the resilience that the children have shown during their first week back! They have been so excited to see each other and have settled back into the routines happily. The new 'Wave' system that we have started using this week for the start and end of the day seems to be working smoothly, so thank you for adapting to this change so well. We've had a busy week with loads of practical and creative learning. We will be continuing with investigating our Big Questions about 'Growing' this term. Please have a look at the map for T4 in the 'Big Question' folder and keep an eye on our Term 4 Gallery. In Maths we will enjoy investigating 'Measure', starting next week with telling the time and in English we will use our writing skills to explain  life cycles. PE will take place on a Wednesday and Friday and Mrs Hickman will continue to cover Wednesday afternoons. As explained, homework will be posted on Seesaw or MyMaths and hopefully, this will be easier for you to submit. Please let me know if you need your access details for these platforms. If possible, please could your child keep a spare pair of wellies or outdoor shoes in school so that we can get out into the gardens or wood at any time. Thank you all again for your incredible support. Please feel free to contact me on the email below if you have any worries or queries. Enjoy the weekend!

Best wishes

Thank you for learning at home and welcome back to school!

7th March 2021

Dear Badger families

As home schooling comes to an end and we await the re-opening of school tomorrow, I wanted to take this opportunity to say a massive ‘thank you’ to you all. You have been amazing during what has been a difficult time! Well done to parents, grandparents and all the adults who have supported the children with their home learning. This hasn’t been easy, particularly when you’ve had to juggle it with your other responsibilities.  Well done to the children for their resilience. You children have adapted to the change of learning at home and have managed to stay positive for so long without your friends. I am very proud of you! I look forward to welcoming you all back this week. It will be amazing to be back together again in the classroom and, as the weeks go by, we can hopefully return to normality! Congratulations to you all, parents and children,  for your incredible efforts over the last few months.

Best wishes

Mrs Cox
