Term 3
Week Six
This week in phonics, we have been recapping our 'ea' and 'ie' sounds. In English, we have been reading 'Giraffe's Can't Dance'. We have been writing our very own invitations to Gerald the giraffe to ia party of our own - including useful details such as to, from, where, when and why!
In maths, we have been linking our number bonds to 10, to be able to find bonds to 20! It was tricky at first, but we persevered and made great progress by the end of the week - using dienes, numicon and ten frames to help us.
We enjoyed our final dance and yoga session in P.E and created sliding mechanisms in D.T! We enjoyed music and learning all about Safer Internet Day with Mrs. Grimwood. We had an exciting afternoon on Thursday with Year 6, who prepared and delivered a super well-being afternoon for Mental Health Awareness Week.
We had a special worship on Wednesday morning which was all about Chinese New Year! We enjoyed some special Chinese New Year craft on Friday to finish the term.

Week Five
This week in phonics, we have been learning the /oi/ as 'oy'. In English, we have been learning about fiction and non-fiction! We now know that fiction is 'make-believe' and non-fiction is true! We have been writing our own animal fact files, writing independent sentences.
In maths, we have been comparing and ordering numbers to 20 and working really hard! We sorted animals into polar regions in science and learned about hot and cold countries in geography! We learned about the equator, and what life is like in the Arctic and Antarctic. On Wednesday, we had a musical visitor who taught us some funny songs and about why music is good for our bodies.
In art, we were printing using symmetry in the style of Romero Britto. We learned about following instructions to achieve goals in P.S.H.E and enjoyed learning about tempo and pace with a new song in music called 'Sparkle'. We had great fun in P.E this week dancing like animals on Monday and using the apparatus with Venture Sports during gymnastics on Friday!

Week Four
This week in phonics we have been revising our phase 5 sounds by segmenting and blending trickier words. We have been using sound buttons to name monsters and even silly cats with funny names!
In English, we have finished our re-telling of 'The Three Little Pigs' and made our very own books. Year One have worked especially hard on these and it was great to see so many children proud of what they had achieved by the end of the week. Children have taken a copy home for you to enjoy! 🐷
In maths, we have been learning to 'estimate' by taking 'clever guesses!' We have been using number lines to find missing values and helping Tiny the turtle to get to the right places.
We learned about journey lines in geography this week and used our knowledge of continents to plot different journeys by painting.
In science, we learned about herbivores, carnivores and omnivores! We sorted animals into groups by their diets.
In art, we enjoyed printing like Romero Britto using potatoes to create exciting patterns with lots of colour. We made 'goal wellies' with Miss. Glenister in Jigsaw this week and learned to command our bee-bots in four directions in computing.
At the beginning of the week, we had lots of fun dancing in P.E and cooling down with some animal-inspired yoga. On Friday, we really enjoyed some very impressive jumping with Venture Sports!

Week Three
This week in phonics we have been learning the /ear/ as 'ur' and /ou/ as 'ow'.
In English, we have been reading the story of The Three Little Pigs! We have used descriptive words to write a 'wanted poster' for the big bad wolf, and have started to re-tell the tale in a story book of our own.
In maths, we have been representing and exploring numbers to 20 in different ways - identifying numerals, words, pictures and objects. We have also been solving some tricky word problems and helping Tiny the turtle to find his mistakes.
We learned about maps and globes in geography this week, discussing the differences between them and identifying how land and water can be represented. We remembered lots about our seven continents and enjoyed playing 'pass the globe' to recall them! In science, we compared and described different animal groups by sorting them within a table.
We used oil pastels in art to explore colour like our artist Romero Britto. We also enjoyed using animal stencils and building materials to explore colour patterns.
In P.S.H.E with Miss. Glenister, we learned about 'goals' and stepping stones. Computing this week was all about commands and buttons - we used direction cards to program and control our bee-bots, and worked on our mouse control using creative lab which was great fun!
On Friday, we enjoyed gymnastics with Venture Sports, recapping our stretches, rolls and learning how to hand-stand! Some very impressive moves!

Week Two
In phonics this week, we have been recapping segmenting and blending nonsense words with our Phase 5 sounds. We have also been learning /ur/ as 'er'.
We have been independently writing our own 'Animal Chatter' poems like Judith Nicholls this week - they are amazing! We have also been learning about question marks, writing (and answering) our own animal questions with correct punctuation.
In maths, we have begun learning about place value to 20. We have explored how different numbers can be represented and shown in many ways.
We started the week with some animal dance and yoga for P.E in the hall. In geography, we learned the 7 different continents and enjoyed using large-scale maps, solving puzzles and playing games with our friends to help with our learning.
In science, we have been learning to group animals! We learned about mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, birds and insects! This song helped us a lot! We sorted animal cards, figures and played a sorting game on the computer in groups.
In R.E, we read the story of 'The Good Samaritan' and spoke about what kindness means to us and different ways we can show kindness to others. We sequence events of the story and retold it in our own words.
We finished the week with Venture Sports for P.E, working this week on our balance and forward rolls. Year One collected all of their hedgehogs and earned their class treat on Friday afternoon, where they enjoyed playing with some favourite toys, teddies and games!

Week One
Year One have come back to school ready to learn and have had a very super first week back at school! In phonics, we have been learning the 'al' and 'ir' sounds, as well as revising our Phase 5 sounds so far. Listening to this song is a great way to remember them!
We are learning all about animals this term! In English, we have been reading a poem called 'Animal Chatter' by Judith Nicholls. We completed missing words to complete the poem using a vocabulary bank. We have also started our joined handwriting practice this week and shown great concentration!
In maths, we have finished our learning about 2D and 3D shapes, learning to use our naming and identifying skills to create shape patterns.
We have been learning about the Brazillian artist Romero
Britto in art this week, who uses bright colours to create exciting animals! We enjoyed having a go in pairs to work in his style.
We had our first Jigsaw lesson with Miss Glenister - this term we are learning about our hopes and dreams! We finished the week with gymnastics in P.E with Venture Sports, learning to control our bodies and balance!
