Term 4
Week Four
This week in phonics we have been learning the /ear/ written as 'ere' and 'eer', and /air/ written as 'are' and 'ear'. In English, we have been reading stories by Jill Murphy - making predictions, asking questions and considering how different characters feel. We enjoyed them all and had some interesting discussions about which one we liked the best and why!
In maths this week, we have been learning to find missing numbers by using known strategies. It was tricky at first, but we didn't give up!
We learned all about the Wright Brothers and the first plane in history and created some colourful hot air balloons in art. In R.E, we learned about the story of The Last Supper, and in Jigsaw we learned about safety in our school and home. We enjoyed our outdoor learning session in the woods on Thursday, and had great fun in P.E with Venture Sports on Friday, learning to work as a pair to balance and control our bodies.
Our new teacher, Miss Prendergast, was here on Tuesday to meet us and is looking forward to beginning her role in class next week. Friday was an exciting day as we said our goodbyes.
Thank you Hedgehogs for your enthusiasm, love and excitement! Thank you parents for your very kind, thoughtful and generous gifts. We will be back to visit very soon! 🦔👶❤️

Week Three (Book Week) 📚
It's been a busy but brilliant book week at school! We have been focusing our learning around 'The Lost Words' and linked our writing, art, drama and more to all things nature! We started off the week with a drama workshop from Ian where we acted as different forest animals and trees. We thought about descriptive words and created a HUGE bank of words to help with our writing this week!
In English this week, we enjoyed going on a leaf hunt and searching for leaves in different shapes, sizes and colours. We used our word bank to describe our leaves in a giant piece of art! We had a go at writing some acrostic poems and sharing these with our friends.
In maths, we have been learning about related facts! We have been using bar models and part-whole models to find 'fact-families' and write number sentences into our books. We did a great job! In R.E we learned all about why Palm Sunday is important to Christians and in science, we sorted between objects and materials.
We really enjoyed reading with Year 4 this week in our shared read, and dressing up on Thursday was great fun!
We had a very exciting P.E lesson on Friday, working on our teamwork and problem-solving skills to build forts in a group! Book week finished with our family reading in class on Friday afternoon, thank you for your support with this.
Our new class teacher, Mrs Prendergast, will be in on Tuesday next week to visit for the day and start getting to know the children before she begins officially on the 18th March.
Have a lovely weekend!

Week Two
This week in English, we have been retrieving facts from fiction and non-fiction texts to answer questions about what we have read. In maths, we have been working on subtraction within 20! We have been learning to count backwards, use a number line and how to find the difference.
We learned about how cars have changed over time in history and enjoyed learning what the very first cars looked like! In art, we used collage materials to create our own steam trains and in R.E we learned about what new life can represent at Easter time for Christians.
In computing this term, we are learning how to group and sort data on the computers! We used our click and drag clicks to sort coloured rocks and crystals into groups on the computers, and sorted symmetrical and non-symmetrical shapes on the iPads.
We enjoyed gymnastics with Venture Sports on Friday, combining our gymnastics skills with hula-hoops!

Week One
This week, we have been doing some excellent revision of our Phase 5 sounds in phonics, focusing on recognising split digraphs. In English, we have been reading and writing labels for various modes of transport.
We have been doing some super number sentence work in maths, writing full calculations to show our doubles and near doubles! We did a brilliant job!
We enjoyed a fitness session in P.E on Monday and gymnastics with Venture Sports at the end of the week. We created a picture timeline in history, showing how vehicles have changed over time. In science, we were matching and labelling various materials and in Jigsaw this week we began our new unit, ‘Healthy Me’.
