Term 2
Week Five

This week we have been using our phonics to help us write independent sentences! We have been creating story maps and re-telling the story 'The Lion Inside'. They're almost finished, and Year 1 have been so proud of their hard work so far! We also painted some super lions this week! We've been working on full stops, capital letters, letter formation AND describing words! In maths, we have been learning all about 3D shapes! We have been naming, building and sorting!

We had great fun in science this week, spotting signs of autumn and winter! We headed outside and made seasonal crowns with our amazing findings. In Jigsaw, we learned about 'bullying', and designed T-shirts to help us remember to show love and kindness to our friends. We enjoyed yoga for P.E with Mrs. Harding, and in R.E this week we learned all about the special time of 'Advent' and what this means for Christians. Talking of Christmas... we have been super busy preparing for our nativity performance! Not long to go now...! Please can we have costumes in on Monday, if not in already - thank you!

In English, we started reading 'The Lion Inside' - exploring the text and writing simple sentences to describe what we can see. We have been superstars in maths - mastering our number sentence and symbols, and even writing perfect number sentences into our books! We were super proud of how great these were!
In history this week, we learned more about Thomas Percy from The Gunpowder Plot. We created 'wanted' posters for the King, using information in his famous proclamation from 1605! We enjoyed our last yoga lesson for P.E with Miss. Glenister this week, and in art we enjoyed painting little penguins! For our Jigsaw lesson, we learned about 'differences' and created our own gingerbread men characters to celebrate all the things that make us special.
We developed our 'select' and 'drag' skills in computing, and did some super handwriting to finish off the week before our busy learning time on Friday.
We said a sad farewell to Miss. Glenister at the end of the week, who we will miss so very much! Good luck Miss. Glenister in your next adventure - thank you for everything!

We learned about the seasons and autumn weather in science, and in P.E we enjoyed yoga skills with Mrs. Harding. For art, we used acrylic paints to create some amazing poppy paintings that we were really proud of!
Friday was lots of fun celebrating 25 years of Children In Need. For our class challenge, we tried 25 balloon bounces and had lots of fun doing it!
Every child should now have taken home a letter for their nativity part and costume requests. Please let me know if it didn't make it to you! Have a great weekend!

In history, we have been really excited to learn more about The Gunpowder Plot and how it ended! We worked in groups to re-tell the story through 'freeze frames', then sequenced the photographs to make our own timelines of events. Some amazing acting skills!
We had lots of fun salt-painting firework displays in art, enjoyed developing our yoga skills in P.E and creating firework art in computing with our super mouse skills!
