Term 6
Week Six
This week we have been working hard on our cursive writing and sentence structure. In maths, we continued to look at money - identifying coins, notes and counting in coins. Year One made great progress and it really started to 'click'!
In R.E this week we spoke about how traditions and faiths are different all around the world - that it doesn't matter where somebody comes from or what they believe in - we show respect to all.
My favourite contribution was: "Yeah, like me, I come from really far far away - I live in Peene!"
We learned about the Jewish tradition of Sabbath, and what makes a great table for this!
In history, we compared Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria - we showed some really impressive memory skills here! In art, we sponge painted our own dragons to guard a castle. In Jigsaw this week, we learned about girls and boys bodies. We labelled the parts and spoke about how our bodies are our own, and what this means.

We enjoyed ball skills and athletics in P.E this week, and a cool morning in Windsor Woods on Friday before the sun came out again.
Have a lovely weekend Hedgehogs!

Week Five

This week we have been planning and writing our own Mr. Men or Little. Miss stories - they are absolutely amazing! Hedgehogs got super creative and had some wonderful ideas which was great to see. We also visited the library again and enjoyed choosing a book to bring home!
In maths, we have been working with money and doing lots of work with coins! It's been tricky but the class tried their very best.
We learned about 'royal heirs' in history this week, and created our own family trees. In art, we got creative in bringing our Mr. Men and Little. Miss characters to life, and in Jigsaw we had loads of fun learning about how babies change and grow.
We really enjoyed playing 'guess the baby' - thank you for all the photos! So cute!!!
Venture Sports did fun races with Year 1 in P.E which was a real hit, especially the sack races! We also had a lovely sunny session in Windsor Woods which was a nice end to the week.
Have a great weekend!

Week Four
This week we completed our castle writing from the perspective of a main character, we worked really hard on our amazing sentences! In maths, we have been comparing numbers to 100, working with dienes and varied representations.
We really enjoyed watching the Stage Stars performance of Aladdin on Monday afternoon and dancing along!
Thursday was great fun as we headed off for our KS1 trip to the Gulbenkian theatre to watch ‘The Cat in the Hat’. We had a great time and the cat even joined our picnic for a photo! Excitement for this built on Wednesday afternoon with some cat in the hat inspired drawing and painting!
Friday was especially hot so we factored in some ice lolly time after our woods session!

Week Three

This week in English we started reading 'The Very Last Castle' by Travis Jonker. We have begun writing from the perspective of a character, using describing words to show feeling. In maths, we have been counting and sequencing in tens, and using a number line to support our learning within 100.
We learned about important British kings and queens in history, and enjoyed making some special cards for Father's Day in art.
We learned more about how plants grow, labelling the parts of a bean plant. In R.E, we continued our learning about Judaism -
looking this week at a mezuzah and designing our own 'special doors'. We enjoyed invasion games, javelin and shot put in P.E this week and a sunny trip
to Windsor woods - where some children managed to catch (and release!) a frog! We also had some adorable visitors this week and loved meeting Kitty's new kittens!

This week Year One completed their Phonics Screening assessments and worked very hard! We will share the results of these in our end of year reports. In English, we have been re-telling our nursery rhyme using amazing sentences, and in maths we started our unit on place value for bigger numbers to 100. We used a 100 square for the first time and did a great job!
We learned about the lifecycle of a bean plant in science and all about the role of a monarch in history. We painted our royal self-portraits in art, and enjoyed yoga for P.E when our outdoor plans were rained away!
Friday was especially exciting as Sports Day came around - it was a great day!

Week One

This week we have been working hard on our phonics revision, and in English we have been learning to recite and perform 'Sing a Song of Sixpence'. You can watch our music video below and dance along!
In maths, we started our new unit which is all about position and directions. We have been describing turns, and learning our left and right (tricky!!!)

We are learning all about kings and queens this term - in art, we started a royal self-portrait using a quadrant grid to help our positioning. We learned about what is precious to Jewish people in R.E, and in science we planted our bean plants! We learned about 'life cycles' and change in our
first Jigsaw lesson of the term, and in computing we started our 'coding' work using Scratch Jr.
We learned to move a sprite by coding with direction (also tricky!!!) We enjoyed our first athletics session with Venture Sports and a visit to Windsor Woods on Friday too.
Have a super weekend!
