Term 4
Week Six
This week we have been busy bunnies! We have been Easter crafting, card writing, singing and more! In maths, we have continued our work on measuring - this week exploring mass using the balance scales, and volume and capacity with various containers.
We have been learning more about the Easter story in R.E, and enjoyed tasting some hot cross buns whilst we learned about Good Friday. We visited the church for the Easter service on Wednesday afternoon and enjoyed singing our Easter songs. We also got to watch the Rock Steady concert at school this week which was awesome - well done to everybody involved!
We did some Easter yoga for P.E and finished the week with a D.T project linked to our learning about transport. We worked in teams to design and make 'boats that float' - which they all did! Woohoo!
Have a super Easter holiday - I hope the Easter bunny is kind to everybody in Year 1! Enjoy the break and we will see you next term! :)

Week Five
This week in English we have been reading stories by Jill Murphy. We found similarities and differences between the stories, and wrote a book review about our favourite. In maths, we have been learning to measure with a ruler in centimeters - we were really good at this!
In history, we used what we have learned about the 'past' to think about what transport might look like in the future! We designed a futuristic vehicle of our own, then built it with construction materials!

We enjoyed P.E this week, and a bonus bouncing session for our sponsored bounce which was great fun! We created Easter crafts, enjoyed singing in music and learned about Palm Sunday and The Last Supper in R.E. There was lots of excitement about the Easter fete after school on Thursday and lots of happy faces!

Week Four

This week in English, we have been reading 'The Big Blue Train' by Julia Arman. We learned about what makes a great adventure story, then planned and wrote our own! In maths, we have been learning about the number line to 50, finding one more/less and estimating numbers by using what we know.
In history, we learned about George Stephenson and the first ever train!
We had great fun in P.E in the sunshine for our invasion games, and enjoyed singing as a group in music. We used collage materials in art to design and make our own trains, and in science we explored and tested different materials in our local environment. We really enjoyed seeing which materials were (or weren't) waterproof! Red Nose Day brought lots of fun and excitement on Friday. Hope everybody has a lovely sunny weekend!
Science: Exploring objects and materials...
Week Three

In English this week, we have been learning all about labels.
We have been using our phonics to spell words independently, and labelling various types of transport. In maths, we have been partitioning into tens and ones - working really hard on our understanding of place value to 50.
We learned about the very first plane in history, 'The Wright Flyer', invented by the Wright brothers. We compared this plane to modern flights, and had a great go at drawing the plane by following some
tricky instructions! We enjoyed a visit from Fun Factory this week and working on our bowling skills - we were awesome! In art, we created some very special cards for Mother's Day, and in science we described objects and materials by sorting into groups. We had fun in music, P.E and enjoyed Forest Friday with our friends!

Maths: Representing numbers to 50...
Week Two

We have had a really exciting book week and lots of fun! We have enjoyed learning about the story 'You Choose' by Nick Sharratt, focusing on our 'futures' and what we choose to be! We did some super writing about our future jobs, thinking about what we will do and what we will need.
We created little people to represent our future role, then turned our artwork into a huge class project! Year 1 were amazingly creative and had such wonderful ideas - we loved watching it all come together! We explored the book through drama with Ian in our Kic Theatre session which was awesome!

In maths this week, we began our place value unit with numbers to 50! We have been identifying and representing bigger numbers in different ways. We learned about how cars have changed over time in history, enjoyed another sunny P.E lesson outside, shared reading with Year 4, and had fun in computing counting and grouping.
Friday was especially exciting with book day costumes filling the classroom! I'm sad to have been out on training but I'm sure it was a great day!

Week One

This week we have been reading the story 'Giraffe's Can't Dance' by Giles Andreae and learning all about invitations. We have written our own invitations - considering to/what/when/where and from. In maths, we have been finding related facts to 20, and working hard to solve challenging missing number problems through a range of representations.
We introduced our new history topic and explored how transport looks different when you compare the past to now. We enjoyed creating transport craft of our own in art too! In P.E, we had great fun in the sunshine for our first lesson focused on invasion game skills!
In science, we were learning to identify and name different materials, and in Jigsaw we started our new topic 'Healthy Me', discussing all the things we know we can do to keep ourselves healthy and happy.
We loved the crazy hair on Friday, and the rain didn't stop our fun as we headed out for Forest Friday! We hosted a 'jungle party' for Gerald the giraffe and had lots of fun. We'll aim to head out every week this term (unless the weather is terrible), so please wrap up warm!
