Term 3
Week Six
This week in phonics, we have been learning the /s/ written as 'c(e)', 'c(i)', 'c(y)', and the /c/ written as 'ch'. In English, we completed our amazing animal fact-files and did some special Valentines writing!
In maths, we have been counting backwards to subtract using number bonds and number lines to help us 'find the difference'.

We learned about the two polar regions in geography, and is science we sorted animals into Arctic and Antarctic! We had great fun in P.E this week, performing our animal dances with Miss. Butcher, and showing off our awesome apparatus skills with Venture Sports. We enjoyed music this week and our performance of 'In the Groove', and hope you enjoyed your Valentines craft which the children made in art this week. D.T was exciting and the children made some clever sliding mechanisms!
We finished the week with our class treat and biscuit decorating - some of you might be lucky enough to receive these as a special gift tomorrow!
We said goodbye to our student teacher, Miss. Butcher this week, who has been amazing. We will really miss you!
Next term, our P.E day is a Tuesday, and we will have forest school on a Friday morning. P.E kits can be worn for this too - just please ensure it is weather appropriate. Most children have wellies here that they can use, if not, you might wish to bring a pair in.

Week Five
This week in phonics, we have been learning the target phoneme /c/ written as 'c', 'k' and 'ck'. In English, we have been busy writing our own animal fact files which are awesome!
In maths, we have been learning about doubles and near doubles, working really hard on our number sentence writing and using numicon to support our understanding.
We learned about the equator in geography, and why some countries are colder or hotter than others! In R.E, we learned about the teachings of Jesus, and in music we listened and appraised some folk music, before singing some groovy songs of our own!
We had fun printing butterflies in art like Romero Britto, and in science we learned more about animal diets - sorting carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. In P.E this week, we learned some choreography in dance from 'The Lion King', and in gymnastics with Venture Sports we developed our jumping and landing skills which was great fun!

Week Four
This week in phonics, we have been revising our sounds and looking at new sounds 'ere' and 'eer'. In English, we have been writing 'wanted' posters for the big bad wolf using descriptive language - they are awesome! In maths, we have been ordering bigger numbers, and doing some tricky additions using number bonds.
We learned about 'journey lines' in geography and had fun e
xploring the continents! We spoke about the good news that Jesus brings in R.E, and enjoyed our 'groovy' music lesson! We explored animal dancing in P.E, and developing our gymnastics further with Venture Sports. In computing, we worked on our 'commands' - building obstacles for our bee-bots to tackle!

In art, we continued to explore 'pattern' in the style of Romero Britto. We painted with potato stamps, and had fun making our potato friends by cutting and sticking!
Friday was Disney day, and a celebration for 30 years of Mrs. V at Lyminge! :)

Week Three
This week in phonics we have been learning the target phoneme /ow/ written as 'ou', and /oi/ written as 'oy'. We have also been really busy with our joined letters!
In English, we have been re-telling the story of The Three Little Pigs, writing independent sentences with describing words, full stops and capital letters.
We have been working with number lines in maths to count forwards and backwards,
find missing numbers to 20, and even starting to 'estimate' on a number line too! We learned that estimates are 'clever guesses', and got the hang of it really well!
In geography, we explored a 'globe' in more detail - identifying land and water.
We had fun animal dancing in P.E, and exploring different genres in music!
In art, we had fun looking at 'pattern' and creating our own using pen in the style of Romero Britto. We had some amazing piggy inspired craft going on too!
We classified and grouped animals in science, and in Jigsaw we learned about working together - and how this can help us to achieve more! We worked on our balance skills with Venture Sports in gymnastics and were treated to more musical performances in show and tell!! :)

Week Two
This week in phonics, we have been learning the target phoneme /ur/ as 'ir', 'er' and 'ear'. We completed our 'Animal Chatter' poems in English, which are amazing! We made our own vocabulary mats, used a writing frame successfully, and then completed a final draft into our own books!
In maths, we have been exploring the number '20' and representing this in multiple ways. We have used ten frames, dienes, numicon, part-whole models and more to deeper our learning - we have been maths superstars!

We had fun exploring the world in geography through a range of practical activities - continent twister, puzzles, songs and matching tasks. In science, we learned about animal groups and worked collaboratively to classify and group different animals.

We explored animal movement with Miss. Butcher in P.E and had great fun in our dance lesson! In art, we looked more at the work of Romero Britto and had a go at sectioning shapes in the way he does for his animal pictures.
We enjoyed working on our 'rolling' skills with Venture Sports in P.E on Friday, and finished the week with our Jigsaw learning which was all about steps and goals, before our busy learning time.
We were treated to a special performance in show and tell this week 🎸 - it's always so lovely to see and hear the wonderful things the children like to share during this time on a Friday!

Week One
Hedgehogs have had a brilliant and busy first week of learning back at school! In phonics, we have been learning the target phoneme /or/ as 'aw' and 'au'. We welcomed Mrs. Cannell, who will be with us on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning. We also welcome Miss. Butcher, our student teacher, who will be with us until the end of term. 😊
In English, we have been reading the poem 'Animal Chatter' and using vocabulary mats to find missing words. We also started cursive handwriting this week and showed great resilience!
We have started our new unit in maths - place value to 20. We have been exploring numbers 11-16, identifying, building and representing number in different ways.
In art, we started learning about artist Romero Britto and experimenting with 'cubism' using paint! We worked together to create some amazing animals! We looked at the story of 'The Good Samaritan' in R.E, and in Jigsaw we began our new unit all about 'Dreams and Goals' by considering what our dreams are!

In computing, we started our next unit which is all about 'commands'. Our first lesson focused on 'buttons' and how they can help us to program. We had lots of fun using the bee-bots!
We had fun in P.E this week, dancing with Mrs. Harding and beginning our gymnastics unit with Venture Sports on Friday!
