Squirrels Class Y3
Term 3
Happy New Year! We hope you all had a wonderful break. Over the coming weeks, we have lots of interesting activities planned and cannot wait to see what amazing work our super Squirrels will produce.
During our Maths lessons, we will continue to develop our understanding of multiplication and division before moving on to length and perimeter. In Year 3, the focus is on the 3-, 4- and 8-times tables. To support learning in class, please encourage your child to practise these at home.
This term in English, will be writing a folk tale and learning about the key features of a biography. Alongside this, we are looking forward to enjoying our class reading text, Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx by Joe Todd-Stanton, using V.I.P.E.R.S (Vocabulary, Inference, Predict, Explain, Retrieve and Summarise) to teach each comprehension skill.
Spelling will continue to be assessed through weekly tests on Fridays. In class, we use Spelling Shed to practise spelling patterns, and we encourage the children to access the website at home as a fun and effective way to reinforce their learning.
In RE, our big question for this term is: What is important for Sikh people?
History lessons will focus on the Ancient Egyptians. This topic will continue across Terms 3 and 4 as we explore the lasting legacy of this fascinating civilisation.
In Science, we will be exploring how forces and magnets work.
PE sessions this term will include hockey on Wednesdays and football on Fridays. As outlined in the recent letter from Mr Willson, children should come to school dressed in their school PE kit on these days. With colder temperatures at this time of year, please ensure kits are suitable for outdoor learning, as sessions will take place outside whenever possible.
Finally, we would like to say a big thank you for the lovely Christmas cards and gifts; they were very much appreciated.
As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to catch us at the end of the school day for a chat or contact us by email via the school office.
Best wishes,
Mrs Baker and Miss Magowan
