Week 1 term 2
This week we began our term with a trip to the trenches! Year 6 listened to soo many facts from our knowledgeable guides and got to explore the replica trenches. We also got to dress up in the uniforms - as well as the gas masks! When Year 6 had a play on the fields, we even got to see a fire rainbow! Wow! Year 6 behaved really well and were a delight to take out for the day! Thank you to the parent helpers for driving! This week, we began writing our own WW1 poems, inspired by the trench visit and in preparation for Remembrance. In Maths, we went through our test papers from last term and in P.E we began our gymnastics unit.

Week 2 term 2
This week Year 6 continued with Remembrance reflections and prepared for our Remembrance Service next week, as well as creating poppy art to go with our WW1 inspired poems. In Maths we started our fraction topic, comparing fractions and adding/ subtracting fractions by making the denominator the same. In French we named food and drink in French, in Science we investigated and drew components in a circuit and in Computing we looked at microbits, creating flashing LED hearts, etc. In History we began our Vikings topic, researching key information for English and investigating sources to decide if Vikings were raiders or traders. In P.E we tried out different team building activities for our OAA unit and on Friday continued with gymnastics.

Week 3 term 2
This week Year 6 were incredible role models to the school, leading their own Remembrance Service at the church. After the service, they then lit candles and sat near the tribute to the soldier that they had researched in class. In History, we created 'Living Graphs' to show a chronological timeline and whne the vikings were a threat and were not a threat. In Science we investigated how the number of cells affect bulb brightness and in PE we continued with gymnastics and team building games. In Computing we created games with our micro:bits such as Hot Potato and in English we created double page spreads on the Vikings, using our research. In Maths we added and subtracted fractions, including with mixed numbers this week.

Week 4 term 2
This week, in English, we began to look at spooky stories, building up to looking at A Christmas Carol later on this term. We have begun using dialogue to enhance the action, as well as planned our own stories ready for next week. In Maths we learnt how to multiply and divide integers by fractions and in Science we continued our circuit experiments, this time adding more bulbs to a circuit. In French we learnt how to ask for food/ drink in a restaurant and in History we debated whether King Alfred really was 'Great.' In Music we sang 'Happy' and in PE we continued our teamwork games and gymnastics. In PSHE we have been thinking about differences and the definition of normal and what it feels like to not be included. In Computing we used the radio function with our micro:bits to send messages and even created Magic 8 balls! This week we also welcomed into our class Mr Ball from The Folkestone Academy and enjoyed showing him what Year 6 get up to!

Week 5 term 2
This week we began writing our spooky stories, using 'The hook' story for inspiration by making sure we had a twist at the end! In Maths, we completed our fractions topic by finding fractions of amounts as well as the original amount and we began our new measure unit. In History we looked at Danelaw England and decided if we would rather live in Anglo Saxon England or Danelaw - freedom or protection?! In Science we investigated different components in a circuit and in Computing we continued using radio signals to create a 'hotter' 'colder' seeking game. In orienteering we used maps outside to explore the school grounds and continued with gymnastics, creating stands in groups.

Week 6 term 2
This week Year 6 created their own gothic horror stories, moving on from our modelled story. In Maths we continued with our measure unit, converting measures and looking at metric and now imperial measures. We had Presents for Parents this week and also has a fantastic DT day, creating our own controllable cars. In P.E we carried on orienteering outside, this time using picture clues around the school. In History this week the children represented different Viking trading locations across the globe and created products to sell and trade with. It got very competitive!

Week 7
This week we finished our measure unit in Maths and finished writing our spooky gothic stories. In Science we applied our circuit knowledge to create alarms (they were very successful at stopping Mrs Vincer as you can see from the footage!!!) We completed our end of unit foundation subject assessments on the computers using OneForm and in French we learnt how to carry out transactions for food/ drink and using currency. We really got into the Christmas spirit this week... Christmas scavenger hunts, making Christmas cards, getting ready for the Carol Service by singing and making Christingles and we even had old pupils visit from Brockhill to teach us some festive songs in French!
