Term 6
Week Eight
We have had a great couple of days celebrating the end of the year and all our amazing achievements. We enjoyed the Year 6 Leavers Assembly, and signing all of their shirts to say goodbye. We had fun sharing our games and toys with each other for busy learning on Monday afternoon, and had an awesome time at Windsor Woods for forest school on Tuesday morning. Ice lollies for snack time was especially exciting, and we were so lucky with the weather! We earned our final hedgehog rewards and opted for a class disco party in the hall on Tuesday afternoon. Popcorn, squash, music, lights, dancing, games and lots of smiles!
What a lovely bunch this class are, I will truly miss them! Thank you for all of your support this year, we hope that you all have a super summer break!

Week Seven
What a busy week it has been! We have been treated to an amazing performance of 'The Little Mermaid' from Year 6, and also enjoyed a wonderful circus skills day thanks to the PFA. We enjoyed learning some new tricks and having fun with our friends.
We also had great fun on Wednesday for our D.T day - designing and making cardboard castles. We made drawbridges that open and close, and we were impressed with the problem-solving skills we observed. I'm sure the castles are looking awesome in your homes!
We have still made 'time' for maths this week - learning how to read a clock! We have been telling the time to the hour, and half hour. Hedgehogs were unbelievably good at this - it's usually a tricky one, but they were flying!
In PSHE, we learned about boys and girls bodies. We did this super sensibly and had some great discussions. P.E has been hot, but heaps of fun, with Miss. Glenister and Venture Sports for dodgeball, tag games and more.
Year 1 loved finishing the week with Opal play and having parents come in to share the fun. We had a more chilled Friday afternoon with Owl Class and Badgers Class - I actually thought some children might fall asleep, but we managed to last!
Only 2 days to go and more fun to come next week... enjoy the weekend!

This week we began our new unit in maths, all about time. We have been learning the days of the week and months of the year. In English, we designed our own dragons and did some amazing descriptive writing.
We have been working really hard in handwriting this week, and were proud of our joined sentences.
In History, we learned about Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria and compared the two. We had a computing and craft afternoon with Mrs. Magowan, and enjoyed rugby with coach Lee and athletics with Venture Sports too!
Other exciting events this week were cheering on at the Year 6 vs Staff rounders match, and enjoying Year 4's ukulele concert! Busy week ahead next week as we approach the end of term...
Have a lovely weekend!

Week Five
This week in English, we have been writing and illustrating our very own Mr. Men or Little. Miss stories. The children have worked really hard on these and are very proud of them! We enjoyed sharing them with Owl class on Friday, and hopefully you enjoyed seeing them at home too.
We have had loads of fun in maths this week, learning all about money! We have been recognising, using and comparing values of coins and notes. We really enjoyed playing shops and using our play money in the food shop, book shop, pet shop and a sticker shop too.
We observed how our bean plant had grown in science and were really excited to take these home at the end of the week. I hope they keep growing so well! Some of us are convinced they are magic beans, so keep an eye out for any giants on top that may appear! In P.E, we had fun with Venture Sports for javelin and shot-put, and in Jigsaw we explored 'change as we grow'. We loved matching our baby photos to each other, thank you so much for your help with getting that set up.
We also had an exciting transition afternoon where we got to visit our new classroom for September - not long to go!

Week Four
It's been an exciting week! It started on Monday with an awesome music assembly with 'Rock Steady'. The children had so much fun singing all morning and really enjoyed learning more about some different instruments.
In English, we have been writing different questions using 'who', 'what', 'where', 'when', 'how' and 'why'. We applied these brilliantly to some character writing linked to our story 'The Very Last Castle'.
In maths, we have been comparing numbers to 100 - which we were awesome at! We enjoyed a flower hunt in Windsor Woods for science this week, and had fun in art with crown crafting and castle construction. In P.E with Venture Sports, we showed off some brilliant skills in the hurdles and even had some races too.
Wednesday was especially exciting as we headed off with Owl Class and Badgers Class to The Rare Breeds Centre! The excitement when the double-decker bus arrived was certainly special! We enjoyed an expert animal-talk, a real life trailer ride and the chance to see lots of lovely animals.
We had a fantastic day with our friends, and had some very sleepy children on the journey home!

Week Three
This week we had an exciting visit to the library. The children loved choosing a book and scanning their library cards to take it home, and were really sensible there. It was a great morning!
In English, we have been reading a story called 'The Very Last Castle'. We have been using full descriptive sentences to re-tell this story. In maths, we have been partitioning tens and ones within 100, doing some number line work with bigger numbers and using this to find one more/less.
We learned about some significant Kings and Queens through time in history. We drew a portrait in pairs and created a whole class timeline to show who came first and last. Everyone worked really hard! We learned about fruit and vegetable plants in science, and enjoyed drawing to music in our music lesson with Miss. Skates. In art, we had a go at some guided drawing for a dragon, and in R.E we learned all about synagogues and what makes them special for Jewish people.
We had fun in busy learning this week with Owl Class and Badgers Class.
We also showed off some great rugby skills with Lee on Thursday, and enjoyed working on our running race skills with Venture Sports on Friday.
Enjoy the school fete tomorrow and have a super, sunny weekend!

Week Two
This week we have been completing our Phonics Screening with children individually. They did a wonderful job, and we will share these results with you in your child's end of year academic report. In English, we have been learning the traditional rhyme, 'Sing a Song of Sixpence'. We have been re-telling the story, using full sentences of our own.
In maths, we have begun our place value learning within 100 - reading, writing and representing bigger numbers. We learned about the different parts of a flowering plant in science, and enjoyed a special French lesson with Miss. Skates learning to name colours!
We enjoyed making our Father's Day cards for art this week, and some of us chose to enter the Young Writer's drawing competition too. We had our first rugby coaching session with Lee which the children really enjoyed. If that wasn't enough sports, we then had sports day to look forward to on Friday. Hedgehogs did really well and we're proud of everyone for participating and having fun!
Rugby coaching with Lee! 🏉
Week One
This week we have been busy revising our phonics, using known strategies to help us decode and blend. We have our phonics screening next week in class and are confident that Hedgehogs class will try their very best, which is all that matters!
In English, we have been learning all about instructions. We have been writing our own for hungry squirrel, explaining how to make a jam sandwich. We have been using bossy words, and writing in time order to help him understand. We had a go at following our instructions at the end of the week, and enjoying a yummy jam sandwich for snack time if we wanted to.
We have been learning about position and direction in maths - forwards, backwards, left, right, and even using our fractions to describe turns.
In science this term, we are growing our own bean plants! We learned about the life cycle of a bean plant this week, and planted our beans in our pots. Now to wait for them to sprout!
Our big question this term is all about Kings and Queens! In art, we drew a self-portrait as a King or Queen, using a quarter grid to help us with our positioning of features. We added fancy crowns and gowns, and thought about what we might do if we were in charge! There were some interesting ideas!!
In R.E, we were learning all about the Jewish celebration 'Shabbat'. We set our own table with Shabbat candles, challah bread, and grape juice (for wine!) in a Kiddush cup.
On Thursday afternoon we had busy learning with Owl Class and Badgers Class which was great fun. We finished the week with Venture Sports on Friday for athletics, and beginning to work on 'commands' in computing.
Sports day next week on Friday to look forward to! Have a lovely weekend! :)
