Week 1 term 3
This week has been a short one after the Christmas break but we have begun lots of new topics. In Maths we started our ratio unit and in English we looked at detective stories. We looked at goods/ services that are imported and exported and used these findings to create graphs in Computing using Excel. We used Fair trade coffee to create art - inspired by bark from the trees outside! Lots of tree hugging! In Music we looked at Samba instruments and listened to Samba tunes. Year 6 also started swimming this term and their excellent behaviour was noticed by lots of different adults! Well done Year 6!

In Science we looked at the cardiovascular system and acted it out! In Music we started playing as a Samba band, using call and response techniques! In Computing we continued with our Excel work with Spreadsheets and in Geography we researched different countries, located them on the world map and found out what goods/ services they import and export. In P.E on Wednesday we began our handball lessons and finished the lesson with mini games.
Week 3 term 3
This week in English we created our own detective stories, using all the ideas we have been gathering from different stories. We made sure we included a victim and perpetrator as well as different suspects and motives. Some children even included red herrings. This term we are reading the 'Nowhere emporium' in class for our VIPERS sessions, having finished The Night Bus Hero. In Maths we solved proportion problems by scaling up and down, including using ingredients for recipes. In Geography we used world maps for locating countries that are the top 10 importers and exporters with the U.K and in Music we continued our Samba music! In P.E we continued with handball (despite it being super cold outside!!) and in Science we took part in a heart investigation.

In English we began our explanation topic and looked at explanation writing and different features. In Maths, we began our algebra topic and looked at 2-step function machines and working out a number by using our inverse knowledge. In Music we recorded our Samba music and in Science we made our own blood! (We learnt that blood is made up of red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma and platelets). In Geography we looked at El Salvador and the economic and geographical problems that many inhabitants face. In P.E we are continuing with handball and swimming and Year 6 have also been enjoying weekly well-being sessions.
