Wildcats Class Y5
Term 6
BIG QUESTION: Why are rivers so important?
Welcome back all! we hope you all had a restful and enjoyable half term! Hopefully, you are ready for Term 6!
We hope you enjoyed the Greek Day at the end of last term; it was fantastic to see so many of you able to attend and celebrate the children's learning! Didn't they do a great job?
The focus of our learning this term, is around the engaging text of 'Holes' by Louis Sachar.
In our writing lessons, we are starting by writing a setting description followed by a persuasive holiday brochure. This will be followed by creating a script for a podcast and finishing the term writing non-fiction on rivers and poetry around the same topic. We will be ensuring the children have a secure grasp on their grammar and punctuation by revising topics from Year 3, 4 and 5 so they begin year 6 with a confident understanding.
In maths this term, we will be looking at decimals numbers, negative numbers, converting units and measurement of volume.
Throughout our learning this term, we will centre around the geography learning on Rivers. This will include how rivers are formed, erosion and deposition and knowing features of famous rivers. We will be studying the Artist, Scarpace, who creates vivid and textural paintings of fish. The children will learn about this artist and build up to creating their own colourful fish painting.
In RE our key question is, Is it better to express your religion in arts and architecture or in charity and generosity?' Our theme in PSHE is called Changing Me, music will review the previous units from Year 5 and Computing is based around Programming Part B and French is learning called Time Travelling.
Our PE days have changed to a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. Our topics this term are Tennis and Athletics.
