Wildcats Class Y5
Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo
Welcome back to school, we hope you all had a lovely and restful half term. We are very excited to begin term 2, especially with all the excitement leading up to Christmas!
Our Big Question this term is; What does it mean to be wild?
This is an exciting topic as we will be linking our class text, 'Kensuke's Kingdom' where a boy is stranded on a deserted island and has to find ways to survive, to our writing where the children will begin by writing their own sailing adventure narrative, instructional writing on how to survive in the wild and finally winter poetry. In geography, we will be looking at extreme climates and weathers, the water cycle and learning about earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanoes. In science, our topic is 'Living Things and their Habitats' and our art will link to our class text by studying Japanese art and in particular the artist of 'The Great Wave', Hokusai. So much to look forward to!
Our PE days remain a Tuesday and a Friday; please ensure all items of the kit are labelled. Homework will be set on a Friday and due in the following Friday.
In case any of the children have mentioned anything, we have a student teacher with us this year and her name is Miss Richards. She will be teaching the children more as the year progresses.
Just a little reminder that Mrs Cutts will be teaching Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Mrs Miles will be teaching on a Thursday and Friday. Should you need to contact us please email; jcutts@lyminge.kent.sch.uk
It was great to meet so many of you on parents evening and to have amazing support from our families so thank you for your encouragement and positivity.
