Wildcats Class Y5
Term 4
BIG QUESTION: What does it take to be an explorer?
Welcome back to Term 4! What an exciting term we have ahead of us! Our learning will be based around the wonderful text, 'Shackleton's Journey.' The book focuses on the landmark expedition of Ernest Shackleton across the Antarctic, from one pole to the other.
Through our reading and writing lessons, we will be reading the book and learning about the different crew members, who were significant in the expedition. We will be writing biographies about a chosen crew member and later in the term, the children will be writing powerful speeches. Week 3 is Book Week so we will be pausing our learning on Shackleton and using the beautiful text 'The Lost Words' as inspiration to write poetry about a chosen British animal. Throughout the term are grammar and punctuation foci are: relative clauses, using parenthesis, identifying determiners and using commas to avoid ambiguity.
Our learning on Ernest Shackleton will culminate on the last day of term where we have our exciting school trip to the Greenwich Maritime museum to partake in a workshop on Shackleton. We are very much looking forward to the day!
Our geography learning will focus on reading maps and using directional language and our science topic for the next two terms is forces, where we study gravity, air resistance, friction, levers and pulleys and gears.
In RE our key question is around the topic of salvation, 'What did Jesus do to save human beings?' Our theme in PSHE is called Healthy Me, music will focus around the song 'The Fresh prince of Bel-Air', Computing is based around programming and French is learning about tasty food!
Our PE days have changed to a Wednesday and a Thursday afternoon. Our topics this term are Hockey and Yoga.
